Over the past four decades, people with disabilities, their families, and those who advocate on their behalf have worked closely and collaboratively to succeed in making significant changes in the lives of people with disabilities and their opportunities in society. Advancements in education, relationships, leadership and social opportunities, and greater independence have all come in increased numbers as a result of the modern Disability Rights Movement in the United States.
