Blog this Friday for Equal Pay Day with the National Women's Law Center!

Nothing ignites a fire under my feminist fanny quite the way that women's unequal pay for equal work does today!

In the United States:
  • Women are paid 77 cents for every dollar that white men are paid;

  • African American women are paid 63 cents on every dollar that white men are paid;
  • Latina women are paid 52 cents for every dollar that white men are paid.

So, what can we do to influence policy and level the playing field for working women and men to earn equal compensation and pay for equal work?

Start this Friday, April 18th, by joining Womenstake: Blog for Fair Pay Day ! The National Women's Law Center (NWLC) has launched the Womenstake project to commemorate Equal Pay Day, which is the day when women's pay for equal work finally meets that of men and the US achieves pay parity across gender and ethnic lines. NWLC needs YOU to make this Friday a historic day of action in the movement for women's equality!

Two quick ways to support Equal Pay Day:
  1. Blog this Friday on Womenstake about the importance of equal pay for ALL women! Click here to sign up;

  2. Urge our US Senators to support the Fair Pay Restoration Act, which will once again give women legal recourse if they have been discriminated against by their employers! Click here to send a message to your Senators and tell them to support equal pay for women.
